Charles Southall:
Senior Consultant
Charles Southall is a 35 year veteran of the actuarial and benefits consulting business as an actuary and benefits consultant.  While Charles has been the primary consulting actuary for many major corporations during his career, in the last seven years he has specialized in total retirement outsourcing, total benefits outsourcing, the front-end conversions of new clients and setting up processes and procedures assuring quality controls for both data in and plan administration results out.
 
Charles spent almost 10 years within the national benefits consulting firm of Howard Johnson and Company, sitting on the five-person executive committee and the eleven-person Board during his last three years with the firm.  Within Howard Johnson & Company he was the firm’s national administration director (overseeing administration responsibilities for offices in Seattle, San Francisco, Portland, Washington DC, and Chicago) as well as the manager of the regional office located in Chicago.  From the Chicago office he managed the total outsourcing assignments for Montgomery Ward.
 
Prior to joining Howard Johnson and Company, Charles was a regional partner within the actuarial and benefits practice of the accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand.  During his tenure at Coopers, Charles sat on the firm’s four member national actuarial and standards and practices committee, and was the primary consultant and actuary for many of the firm’s actuarial clients in Texas and Oklahoma.  Charles was with Coopers and Lybrand for eight years, five of which were as a Partner within that firm.
 
Charles’ actuarial experience prior to ERISA enabled him to become a grand-fathered Enrolled Actuary under ERISA in 1976.  Charles achieved the status of Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1978. 
 
Charles graduated with honors in 1970 from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology with a BS degree in mathematics.
